Boolean search strings cheat sheet11/7/2022 ![]() ![]() John Doe,” or “Reverend John Dae,” or “Rev. Will return either Rev or Reverend and John or Jan within two words of D ?eĮ.g., “Rev. (Rev OR Reverend ) AND (John OR Jan ) w2 D ? (Note that the search term is placed within parenthesis, and then within another set of parenthesis along with the command.) Will return files only with NJ in the title. In addition, some newspapers printed the date of publication on every page while others did not.)ĬOMPLEX BOOLEAN STRINGS - You can also create strings of Boolean terms, creating ever more specific search parameters. (Note that on Old Fulton, it may look for the dates of the scans, not titles. Inserting a tilde will define a range of dates to search. In this example, inserting two question-marks will allow it to replace two characters, “John,” “Jahn,” etc. (Optional, Boolean) If true, enable position increments in queries constructed from a querystring search. The insertion of a question-mark, specifies how many characters can be replaced with wild-cards. (Insert multiple question-marks, to allow for more variables.) In this example it will return “Rev” or Reverend” and “Jonathan,” “John,” or “Jan.” The insertion of an asterisk allows any number of characters to be replaced as wild-cards. Will find documents that have BOTH “John Doe” and “Jane Doe” on the same page Will find a “John” or a “Jane” within two words of “Doe” = “John Doe” or “Jane Doe” NEAR Operator: Inserting n and a number (in this case 10) will find will find results that have “John” and “Doe” near each other, separated by no more than 10 other characters. This can be helpful if a middle name is used, e.g., “Jane Liz Doe,” as it will just look for the two words within two words of each other and ignore what is between them. WITHIN Operator: Inserting w and a number (in this case 2) will find results that have “John” and “Doe” within two words of each other. Results that either have only the whole name “Reverend John Doe” on the page. Will find documents that have a “John” on the page but no “Doe” on the same page. Results that have “John” or “Doe” on the same page, note that these terms may not have any relationship to each other. Results that only have John, excluding any result with Jonathan. Results that have “John” and “Doe” on the same page, note that these terms may not have any relationship to each other. Note: Make sure to select “Boolean” from the drop-down menu before hitting “Search.” With Boolean, you can learn a few basic commands and combine them to get ever more specific with what you are looking for. While it may sound daunting, learning a few Boolean terms will help you get more out of sites like Old Fulton, and works with most search engines, such as Google!Ĭontinuing with our example of “Reverend John Doe.” Experiment with adding the following terms to your search and see what happens. Boolean fields have only two possible values: the string true or false. Boolean search strings cheat sheet code#Helpful Boolean Search Terms The following is an addendum to the November 2015 Archivist article on using the Old Fulton Postcards website.īoolean-Boolean is a computer language that allows the computer to narrow the search terms by adding some simple code to the search terms. queries to search for processes and binaries, but most of the syntax. ![]()

I am not going to tell him/her: "Oh, it fails some synthetic tests, but those are not real.don't worry!". Using your explanation of these "synthetic" tests, if I am building a system for a customer using Corsair RAM, and encounter errors in memtest86, then I would not give that system to a customer. I don't want him to get bad results for his applications! A memory failure wouldn't crash the system, but provide inaccurate results, which he would probably never detect. He was running complex math solvers, which max'd out the use of RAM. If this fails with one set of RAM at stock / non-overclocked speeds, but not another, how is this not a memory error? I recently built several systems for a client with 64GB of RAM each. This is running a bunch of FFTs, which is pure math. This includes memtest86 (note the use of *test* not *benchmark*), Prime95, IntelBurnTest, Intel Processor Diagnostic Test (assuming Intel system), Valley, Heaven, Cinebench, etc. Whenever I build a system, I run a standard suite of tests to insure stability. I would like to see this posted on the warranty page or some FAQ, as it will certainly affect me as a future buyer, and perhaps others. If you have errors in a memtest but no issues in regular use then there's no problem to fix.Įssentially, it sounds like Corsair will not honor warranty on RAM that fails "synthetic" benchmarks like Prime95 and memtest86. ![]() Prime95 is a synthetic test, not normal use of the kit. You'd get approved if you had issues in everyday use of the RAM and not in synthetic benchmarks solely. This was just the initial response from Corsair (you?). Would you like me to clarify more of my response? I did say much more than what was quoted on here. ArtĪm I missing something? Failing memtest is not "bad enough" to get an RMA? What qualifies for an RMA, the RAM catching fire?! Synthetic benchmark failure wouldn't be cause for an exchange. Would like to setup advanced RMA.Īnd this is the response from Corsair tech support: I would like a replacement, so I can run in quad-channel. One kit fails on Test #10 as above, while the other passes. I then decide to test the two kits separately, installing in slots B2/D2, and running at default 2133MHz. I kept dropping frequency, thinking a Ryzen compatibility issue, but even at default 2133MHz, I would get a handful of errors on Test #10. When running Passmark memtest86 v7.4, I would notice about four errors on Test #10. I initially used the A-XMP profile for 3000MHz. #Cpu stress test math and prime95 number failed manualI have two kits, and populated both kits in the slots specified by the motherboard manual (A2/B2/C2/D2). #Cpu stress test math and prime95 number failed proI am using it in a MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC motherboard, with a AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x CPU. The following is the info I supplied with a ticket with corsair today: ![]()

Pianoteq pianissimo11/6/2022 ![]() I've heard their grand is not particularly bright, but there are tone controls within the program for that. Motu Mach Five sample player comes with an 8 gig grand piano, as well as some rock pianos and a bunch of other stuff. The True Piano is great for cutting through a rock or pop mix, but not so great for solo stuff, depending on how discerning you are. They give you a 40 day fully functional demo of one out of four of their pianos. A lot of players really like the German Baby Grand for solo stuff and quiet jazz.Ĥ Front True Pianos Truepianos - Welcome is a simulated piano, taking up only 60 megs or something like that. They also have a Vienna Grand with is a little beefier, and a German Baby Grand, which is more mellow. #PIANOTEQ PIANISSIMO DOWNLOAD#I'm using the 16 bit download version of the Steinway which is only about 2 gigs. They also have a 'warp' function which can turn your piano into something from Star Wars, and a pad function which can add a nice pad to the piano. There's one for presence, one for resonance, which can add lushness or subtract it, and one for compression. What's nice about it is the tone controls. Galaxy Piano Galaxypianos comes with its own player based on Kontakt. ![]() They also make a rustic upright called Rain Piano for $49 but it also needs a sample playback engine. I think it requires a sample player like Kontakt, Mach Five or Gigastudio. The SampleTekk White Grand seems to be the most present - good for cutting through a mix. Scuf pro player pack11/6/2022 ![]() The Scuf Instinct comes in a variety of colors and themes. As someone who thinks the default stick tension for Xbox controllers-including the Instinct, which feels the same as the Xbox Wireless Controller-is practically perfect already, the omission doesn't bother me. #SCUF PRO PLAYER PACK SERIES#The Instinct lacks the adjustable stick tension that's featured in the Elite Series 2. However, that doesn't mean it's better than the Elite Series 2 in every way. The Scuf Instinct is a wonderful high-end controller that doesn't really have a downside from a design or performance standpoint. Where it falls short of the Elite Series 2 Scuf will sell additional faceplates and analog sticks separately for those who want customization beyond what's included in the box. The Instinct supports three profiles that can be cycled through and remapped without needing additional software. ![]() The magnetic faceplate pops off easily to make adjustments.īeyond altering the actual build of the controller, you can customize inputs on the fly with the help of the Profile button on the back. The only thing really missing here is the ability to adjust the layout to PlayStation-style with parallel analog sticks, though that's understandable given how it would essentially require a new chassis. You can also remove the eight-directional D-pad, revealing an old style, four-way D-pad. The Instinct comes with an extra pair of longer analog sticks that have flat tops with a different feel than the standard concave analog sticks. From there, you can swap out the thumbsticks and D-pad. The magnetic faceplate, which is available in a myriad of color schemes and designs, easily pops off without using any tools. The Scuf Instinct is mightily impressive even without any adjustments, but as a high-end gaming controller, it's not surprising that it gives players the freedom to tinker with the layout. Scuf smartly retained the same exact layout for all of the conventional Xbox Wireless Controller buttons, and the Instinct even has the new Share button, so you're not losing anything of note by ditching Microsoft for a third-party brand (Scuf's Prestige controller doesn't have the Share button). The Instinct's paddle layout also surpasses Scuf's Prestige controller, which suffers from a similar comfort flaw as the Elite Series 2 when all four paddles are attached. ![]() With the Instinct, all four built-in paddles are in play at all times. ![]() Essentially, the Elite Series 2 is at its best when you only use two paddles. One of the only complaints we've had about the Elite Series 2 is that it's fairly uncomfortable when you have all four paddles attached. These paddles are positioned in a clean layout that makes it easy to press each one of them without sacrificing comfort or moving your fingers in an awkward fashion. They more closely resemble triggers than traditional controller paddles, but they serve the same purpose. The Instinct has four back paddles-two on each side-built into the controller. Not only does the general shape of the Instinct live up to the high standard of the Elite Series 2 it also surpasses it in one key area. Superior ergonomics The Scuf Instinct Pro includes a comfortable, textured grip. Note: For the rest of this review, the "Instinct" refers to both models. The Instinct Pro also has optional instant triggers (Elite Series 2 does as well), which lock the triggers in place and allow you to simply tap lightly to "pull," which is an especially useful feature if you play first-person shooters. ![]() For the extra $30, you get a textured, high-performance grip that far exceeds the feel of the conventional Xbox Wireless Controller and is on par with the Elite Series 2. While I didn't have the chance to test the standard Instinct, the features it's missing are some of my favorite aspects of the Instinct Pro. Yes, that means the Instinct Pro is even more expensive than the Elite Series 2. Scuf is offering two separate models: the Instinct for $170 and the Instinct Pro for $200. The Instinct Pro is every bit as premium as the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller, and it even outperforms it in terms of ergonomics and certain customization options. The Scuf Instinct and Scuf Instinct Pro combine the excellent form factor of the Xbox Wireless Controller with a bevy of customization features and flourishes that make them particularly notable for competitive gaming. The latest high-end controllers from Scuf Gaming were designed specifically with the Xbox Series X|S in mind. ![]()

Gimp move selection11/6/2022 ![]() ![]() If you’re finding the Move tool isn’t letting you move your selection, there’s a couple of options located in the tool palette that might help. If you try to use it before that, you’ll simply move your selection area instead of the actual contents, or you’ll move the entire image, depending on the Move tool mode. What About the Move Tool?ĭespite the fact that GIMP has a Move tool, you can only use it to move your selection once you’ve already floated it. It makes much more sense to me to separate your selection to a new layer permanently, but I’ll explain that in more detail later on. Personally, I find this workflow a bit limited, but it can be handy if you’re just making a single change and you want to finish up as quickly as possible. You can create a new layer using your floating selection using the green new layer button in the bottom left of the Layers palette, anchor your floating selection to resume editing the whole image, or delete your floating selection (which also deletes the selection contents). The Layers palette displaying my floating selection The fastest way to do this is to hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys (Cmd and Option on a Mac) and simply click and drag with your mouse to move the area you’ve selected. Once you’ve got it just right, the next step is to turn your selection into something GIMP calls a ‘floating selection’. Holding down the Shift key while drawing a new selection will add to your existing selection, and holding down the Ctrl key will subtract from it. If you want to adjust your selection area, you can tweak it using the handles, or combine it with another selection. For bonus points, try using the Selection Editor! #Gimp move selection free#These instructions work with all selection tools in GIMP, so feel free to experiment with different combinations. ![]() The simplest way to move a selection in GIMP starts, unsurprisingly, with making your selection using any of the selection tools. Since it’s such a common operation, there are quite a few different ways that you can make a selection and move it around your image until you get it just right. One of the most essential functions of an image editor is to let you move sections of your image around. ![]() |
